DISCOVER THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN Texas Hold'em POKER AND Pot Limit Omaha

Poker is a very wide-ranging game, with many different variations. These are ways of playing that have evolved according to fashion and players' tastes. Two of these variations are authorised under the gambling regulations applied in Paris and are played at the Club Pierre Charron: No Limit Texas Hold'em and Pot Limit Omaha.

Texas Hold'em is the best-known and most widely played poker variant in the world. It owes its success to two factors. First, the rules of the game are easy to understand, so you can start playing straight away. Secondly, it is a variant that is widely covered in films and TV series, and benefits from growing media exposure, particularly through broadcasts of international poker tournaments. However, some players prefer the thrill of playing Pot Limit Omaha.

The most visible difference between these two variants is the number of cards the player holds: 2 cards in Texas Hold'em and 4 cards in Pot Limit Omaha.

With 4 cards in hand, the player benefits from many more possible combinations. When playing PLO (the acronym for Pot Limit Omaha), it's very common to get flushes, fulls, straight flushes... but be careful not to get carried away, as your opponent can also make some very strong plays!

Unlike Texas Hold'em, where the amount of the bet is not limited (hence its full name of "No Limit Texas Hold'em"), the bets in Pot Limit Omaha are limited by a calculation linked to the amount of the Pot* and the bets of the other players. But don't worry, this calculation is carried out throughout the game by the dealer!

* The "POT": unlike Texas Hold'em, you cannot raise "No Limit" in Pot Limit Omaha. The maximum raise is calculated according to the "Pot". The "Pot" is calculated as follows: 3 times the previous bet or raise plus the total of all other bets made. Example: "Small Blind": 5, "Big Blind": 10, Raise: 30, "Pot" > (30 x 3) + 10 + 5 = 105.
